It is during the formative years where academic, social and emotional problems tend to pick up momentum and oftentimes show up in adult lives scarred by educational failure, unemployment and incarceration.  Additionally, studies show the recidivism rate is reduced when youth are mentored consistently for 26 weeks and at least 78 hours, (Juvenile Justice Improvement Project, 2014)
